Greetings neighbors,
As the calendar turns to late June and July, the classic rhythm of Southwest Florida summer settles in. While the snowbirds have flown north, our neighborhood remains vibrant with local life. This season is all about finding clever ways to beat the heat, enjoying our tropical surroundings, celebrating our nation’s independence, and looking out for one another as the summer weather patterns emerge.
Community Update: Bulk Telecommunications & Fiber Initiative
The Board and Communications Committee want to share a major update regarding our future telecommunications agreement. Transitioning to modem “fiber-to-the-home” infrastructure requires a two-year planning runway. Following a thorough review process-including vendor RFPs from Hotwire, Blue Stream, and Xfinity, alongside a GetQuorum resident survey-the Communications Committee has finally recommended accepting a 10-year proposal from Xfinity.
While multiple vendors offered to fully fund the new fiber infrastructure at their own expense, Xfinity’s superior television interface and programming capabilities best aligned with the resident preferences expressed in our community survey.
Highlights of the Recommended Xfinity Proposal: Immediate Financial Relief: Upon contract execution, our bulk monthly rate will immediately decrease by approximately 30%. Predictable Long-Term Costs: Annual price escalations will be capped at 3.25% (down from 4%). By Year 10, the monthly cost per household will be just $1 more than what residents pay today. Upgraded Infrastructure & Equipment: The package includes a full fiber-to-the-door installation, a new router, and three wireless set-top boxes per household while retaining your current TV lineup. Massive Speed Increase: Internet performance will transition to a symmetrical 1100 Mbps download / 1100 Mbps upload speed (a massive upgrade from our current 800 Mbps download/ 35 Mbps upload limits). Association Bonus & Timeline: The agreement includes a one-time pre-tax cash payment to the Association of $313,320. If approved, installation is projected to begin in Q1 2027.
Summer in paradise comes with its own unique daily schedule. To make the most of the season, seasoned locals follow a simple rule: conquer the outdoors early. Early morning beach walks, golf rounds, or neighborhood strolls between 7:00 AM and 10:00 AM offer beautiful coastal breezes before the intense midday heat sets in.
By 3:00 PM, we all know to expect our famous afternoon thunderstorm. Rather than letting it ruin your plans, embrace the rain as nature’s cooling system. It’s the perfect time to pivot to indoor activities. Take advantage of air-conditioned local gems like the Edison & Ford Winter Estates museum galleries, treat the family to an afternoon at the IMAG History & Science Center, or plan a rainy-day bowling challenge with friends.
Independence Day is just around the corner, and our region knows how to celebrate in style! From golf cart parades to massive beachfront displays, there are plenty of options nearby. Keep an eye out for regional favorites like Cape Coral’s Red, White & Boom, the classic fireworks near the Naples Pier, or Fort Myers Beach’s community celebrations. If you are staying close to home, consider hosting a backyard potluck. To keep things cool, focus on a refreshing, no-cook menu. Chilled shrimp skewers, watermelon-and-feta salad with fresh mint, and cold fruit parfaits are crowd-pleasers that won’t require turning on a hot oven.
