It’s that time of year again, hurricane season. Living in SWFL, preparedness isn’t just a chore; it’s a lifestyle. Know your zone, evacuation zones are based on storm surge risk, not just wind. Zones in Lee County often change; residents should look up their specific address every year. The “7-Day” Rule: Supplies should last at least 7 days per person (and pet). Digital Prep: Download the LeePrepares app now, while the Wi-Fi is still working! Document Check: Take photos of your home (inside and out) and insurance documents, then upload them to a secure cloud or a waterproof USB.

The “Dry Run” weekend: spend the last weekend of May checking your shutters and testing your generator. It’s much easier to fix a stuck track or a clogged fuel line when it’s 90°F and sunny than when a storm is in the Gulf!

The 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season names have been released. Keeping these names visible helps you recognize them when they start appearing on the news: names to Watch: Alberto, Beryl, Chris, Debby, & Ernesto.

Upcoming dates to mark on the calendar. May 27, The “Bigger & Weirder” tour with “Weird Al” Yankovic at Hertz Arena. June 1 – Official Start of Hurricane Season. June 5 – World Environment Day. June 19 – Juneteenth, and June 21 Father’s Day & Father’s Day. June 21, one of my favorites, National Donut Day. June 21 the first day of summer.

Honoring the Brave: Memorial Day. As we approach the final Monday of May, we pause to observe Memorial Day. While the long weekend often signals the unofficial start of summer and a time for backyard barbecues, its heart lies in a much deeper purpose. This is a day of national remembrance dedicated to the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the U.S. military. Whether you attend a local parade, visit a memorial, or simply share a moment of silence at 3:00 PM (the National Moment of Remembrance), let’s take a collective beat to honor the fallen and express our gratitude for the freedoms we enjoy today.

Celebrating Dad: Father’s Day. It’s time to dust off the “World’s Best Dad” mugs and fire up the grill! Father’s Day is right around the corner, giving us the perfect excuse to celebrate the fathers, grandfathers, and father figures who have shaped our lives. From the questionable “dad jokes” and backyard coaching sessions to the quiet moments of support and wisdom, these men play an irreplaceable role in our families. This year, skip the generic tie and focus on the good stuff: quality time, a heartfelt thank-you, or perhaps just letting him have full control of the TV remote for the afternoon. Happy Father’s Day to all the incredible dads in our community!

From the Board Meeting: we are replacing the fence around the playground. Working on new furniture at all pools, this is a long-term plan. Adding a new Stairmaster in the gym. Replacing the non-functioning lights on the tennis and pickleball courts with new LEDs.

A friendly reminder, third quarter dues are due July 1.

Stay Safe.
