JANUARY 19, RIVERSIDE PARK, 2 P.M. GUEST VOCALIST: JAMES JONES
The Bonita Springs Concert Band will present its next concert of the season Sunday, January 19 at 2 p.m. at Riverside Park in Downtown Old Bonita Springs. The band’s very special guest vocalist will be James Jones. Jones will sing Al Jarreau’s So Good, and George Gershwin’s Summertime. The band will also perform the The Rifle Regiment by John Philip Sousa, When You Wish Upon a Star, and Pirates of the Caribbean.
At the age of 12, James knew he wanted to be a singer, after seeing the Fabulous James Brown perform at the Apollo Theatre. Although still very young, he landed a job at the University of Connecticut as a part-time drama instructor. During his junior year, he switched majors to attain a bachelor’s degree in clinical psychology. He has had the fortunate opportunities to work with Kool and The Gang, Jonathan Butler, Marion Meadows and many others.

Members of the band are under the direction of Gary Smith who retired after 24 years as conductor of the University of Illinois Marching Illini Band and Symphonic Band. This is the 11th season that Gary has led the band. Gary says “the talent of these musicians is tremendous, ranging in age from 16 to 90.” Become a “Friend of the Band.” Find out more at www. bonitaspringsconcertband.org. The concert will also be replayed later in the week on Facebook at bonitaspringsconcertband.
